Ghostly projection effects I created in 2008 for my living room haunt. At the time I was using a Panasonic AE700U projector for my home theatre.
Since the rest of the room was decorated for Halloween, I decided to create these effects on the wall where my projector was already set up.
The above video is a small version of what I am actually projecting. The pictures below show the final effect once its projected on the props I built.
The Ghost Bride prop I created from styrofoam, Magic Sculpt, and white tulle.
For the footage to project I created the ghost using Maya 3D animation software.
There is also a small blacklight and fan underneath the prop for additional movement.
The Changing Portrait is, obviously, Master Gracey from the WDW Haunted Mansion.
I plan on creating an original character for this effect, but at the time this is all I had.
This is projected onto a real frame with a blank white canvas. Cobwebs and cracks appear on the frame as it "ages".
I built the Ghost Bust, from styrofoam and plaster. I shot video of my wife for the face, and added a skull effect.
Real life flickering candles sit under the bust, and I matched the flicker so it looks like that's the source of its lighting.
The candleabras have small white strips of paper for the flames to project on.
Black tulle hangs on the wall as curtains, and the thunderstorm and windows project directly on the white wall.
I brought all the elements together using Shake compositing software, and was able to achieve perfect line-up by having my computer hooked up to the projector
while I tweaked the effect in real time. High Definition projectors have certainly opened up amazing possibilities for Haunting.
